Men’s clothing store coming to downtown Raleigh will feature custom suits, Alden shoes

Downtown Raleigh will increase its retail landscape soon with the addition of a locally owned upscale men’s clothing and accessories store.

Entrepreneurs Matt Gray and Jim Pietryka hope to open Ealdwine men’s store by the end of the year at 412 S. McDowell St. in the space next to Port of Raleigh. That’s just down the block from Poole’s Diner.

The 1,025-square-foot store, which is still under construction, will carry shoes by Alden, custom-made suits, and clothing and accessories from other high-end labels such as Mizzen + Main, Naked & Famous Denim, William Henry Studio, Frank Clegg and Southwick.

Gray and Pietryka say the Alden shoes will be the centerpiece of the business. Alden is a Massachusetts-based company founded in 1884. Ealdwine will carry about 50 styles of Alden shoes and boots, including special styles unique to that store, Gray said in a recent interview. Some Alden shoes are available at Kannon’s Clothing in Cameron Village and at Liles Clothing Studio in North Hills. The price point for Alden shoes is in the $500 to $800 range.
